about

Emilyn Stam (violin), Tangi Ropars (accordion, vocals), and John David Williams (clarinet) present a unique repertoire of the folk music of Brittany, the Celtic region on the West Coast of France. A Breton native, Tangi Ropars has played accordion, sung, and danced at Fest Noz (folk dance) events since he was a young boy. Emilyn Stam was introduced to this music while living in the Netherlands and touring with Dutch folk band Té at dances and festivals across Europe. John, Tangi, and Emilyn met as members of Toronto’s Lemon Bucket Orkestra. With Lemon Bucket Orkestra, they have each 2 Juno Award Nominations, hold the 2015 category for Best World Music group in the Canadian Folk Music Awards and NOW magazine’s Best Toronto Band of 2015. They have toured through Eastern Europe and across Canada multiple times playing festivals, bars and concert halls. As a trio they create an energetic and dynamically emotive experience for the listeners with traditional and original Western European music for folk dances. In 2013 they founded the music and social dance collective Balfolk Toronto, creating a niche culture of dancing traditional social dances to live music in bars, cafés, dance halls and parks across the city.
